Why do Disney films tend to be appeal to adults and children alike?
It appeals to both due to the fact adults get glimpses of their childhood when watching the films and joyous memories are brought back in to their mind when watching their film and children enjoy the entertainment of the film and seeing things they enjoy on screen.
This audience rating tells us that many more males rated the film then females and the overall highest rating was given by 18-29 year olds.
81% of the audience was composed of families. Almost 20% of the audience were non -families. They made $18 million in ticket sales. Toy Story 3's non family audience was 40% 17 to 24 year olds.
Animated and young adult films offer a simple, pure form of escapism. There is moral ambiguity or uncertain endings; good will prevail.

This shows more males went to see the film then females which I believe is due to the males gaze theory. Despite this, the graph shows females rated the film more highly then males did.

Blumler and Katz - Uses and Gratifications theory
An audience wants to:
1. Be informed or educated
2. Identity with characters of the situation in the media environment
3.Simple entertainment
4. Enhance social interaction
5. Escape from the stresses of daily life
I believe Frozen is a mainstream target audience due to the fact that it is made for all ages and not made for a specific gender. There main age range they are appealing to is young kids however their secondary target audience is adults as adults will be taking their children to see the film resulting in them seeing the film and so they want to make the film appeal to them too. The Uses and Gratifications theory can be used here as this film provides simple entertainment to the audience.
I believe the Worlds End is a niche film as it is targeted audience as it is targeted at young males. Their main age range they appeal to is young males as there is a lot of violence and fighting which appeals to young men. I believe the secondary audience for the film is older males 25 plus due to the fact that there is a lot of comedy of a mature nature which males of that age would find funny. The Uses and Gratification theory can be used for this film due to the fact this film provides simple entertainment and can also allow you to escape from the stresses of daily life.
